LESBIANS IN BASKETBALL
Sheryl Swoopes, a three-time Olympic gold medalist and three-time MVP of the WNBA, came out publicly as a lesbian in 2005. A superstar in the WNBA, Swoopes is the highest-profile team athlete to come out.
Other out lesbians who played in the WNBA include Michelle Van Gorp and Sue Wicks. To date, no current or former NBA player has come out as gay.
